Keep It Clean

Excuse vs. Truth

Excuse: "I can't hire a professional organizer because I can't afford it."
Truth: Most jobs can be done in just a few hours, so bringing in a pro costs less than you might guess. And think about all the time, energy, and money you are currently wasting by not being organized. The cost will be quickly recouped when you find yourself with more time, you are saving money by not buying duplicate or unnecessary items, and you are able to enjoy your new space!

Excuse: "I can just get organized myself. I don't need a consultant."
Truth: Maybe you can do it yourself, but will you ever really get around to it? How long have you lived in chaos? Be honest: Will you really fix your present situation any time soon? The help of a professional can inspire you to get organized now, and love the results sooner rather than later.

Excuse: "What can a professional organizer offer me that I can't get somewhere else?"
Truth: Professional organizers have been trained to set up systems that, when used properly, will work not just when we leave, but for the months and years to come.

Excuse: "My place will be chaotic again a month after you are finished, so why bother?"
Truth: My services include helping you identify the thinking and habits that are sabotaging your efforts. Your environment will not remain chaotic once you identify your pitfalls and put your mind to maintaining the order we have created. It's also good to know that I offer a free follow-up appointment one month after our session to answer any questions you may have.

Words of Wisdom from the Expert

Home Matters. If you have several areas in your home that need organizing, think about the one that is the most stressful to you. Start in that room or in that closet. The most important thing: Stop procrastinating and just get started!

Office Space. Start by purging papers you no longer need, including little scraps of paper that just cause clutter.

Relationship Rescue. When you are organized, you have more time to build relationships with those you love. Instead of spending time looking for your keys in the morning, have a second cup of coffee with your husband! Spend your new-found free time investing in the people that are most important to you.

Schedule for Success. Never double book appointments, and learn to say "no." Remember to look at your calendar at least daily.

Mission Control. Have a "command center" in your home. Include a pen, paper, dry erase board, mail slots, calendar, etc. This is also the best place to leave notes for your spouse and kids.

Keep It Clean. Spend just a few minutes each day cleaning your house (like doing the dishes or hanging up clothes). This prevents clutter from taking over!

Travel Advisory. Since packing light is a good idea no matter where you are going, pack only clothes that match each other. Pack a lot of black and khaki (two colors that match most any other color). This way you can "mix and match" easily while you're on the road.
