About Allison

Allison Shorter I'm Allison Shorter, owner of Shorter Designs. I was born and raised in Winston-Salem and graduated from N.C. State University, where I received a degree in psychology.

Upon graduation from N.C. State, I worked with college students for six years. One of the many things I did was help them balance their time, finances, energy, and relationships. I spent time with students individually, helping them set goals and take appropriate steps to meet those goals. Over the years, I helped countless students handle different challenges, maximize their time, and be more prepared to face the future.

After leaving this role, I wanted to learn more about "professional organizers" and what they do. Working at Organized Living in Durham, NC, I logged over 400 hours designing Schulte closets and working with customers to tailor closet-designs that balanced storage needs, budget, and personal style. Now, as an organizer, I continue to design closets, as well as efficient living and work spaces.

Two things I have always enjoyed are being organized and spending one-on-one time with people. Now as a professional organizer, I am able to blend my interests with my background in psychology. I find it extremely rewarding to work with individuals who want to improve their quality of life by making organizational and environmental changes!

I have been married since 1997 to my supportive and wonderful husband, Kevin. We met at N.C. State University and were in full-time ministry together until last year. Kevin is pursuing his MBA and assisting me with Shorter Designs. Some of the activities we enjoy together include watching Clean Sweep on TLC and traveling every time we get a chance. Kevin and I have lived and traveled throughout Argentina, Turkey, Europe, and the U.S. And our newest adventure is parenthood. We had a daughter, Rachel, in June of 2005!

Professional Organizer I am proud to be a member of NAPO, the National Association of Professional Organizers. NAPO is a non-profit educational association whose members include organizing consultants, speakers, trainers, authors, and manufacturers of organizing products.
